Why would you need ongoing SEO?

Search Engine Optimization isn't a one-time and it's done kind of thing.

If you don't keep up on doing SEO, your websites 'rank' (search engine position) will start to go down. That's NOT a good thing when you are trying to keep customers visiting your sites!

Also, by maintaining your SEO, (or maintaining the traffic to your sites) you keep interest alive in whatever it is that you have to offer people.

This can be as simple as acquiring new backlinks, updating your websites/content or the social sites you are involved in, finding new places to get listed or hooked up with, joining forums or other social media websites in your specialized niche, etc.

By keeping up with your ongoing SEO needs, you keep visitors coming to your website, and thus, into your business.

Now, you don't have to go crazy and go out and get thousands of new links every week (even though that would be truly helpful, but honestly, most business owners just don't have the necessary time to accomplish that). What you could do, however, is simply get 5-10 new links (or social bookmarks, or new social accounts, etc.) every week, on a consistant basis. That's a realistic and "do-able" goal.
